Admiral of the Fleet Peter John Hill-Norton, Baron Hill-Norton (1915–2004), was a distinguished officer in the Royal Navy who rose to the highest echelons of military leadership. Born in Germiston, South Africa, he entered the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, in 1928. Throughout his career, he held several key positions, including First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff from 1970 to 1971, and subsequently, Chief of the Defence Staff until 1973. In these roles, Hill-Norton was instrumental in shaping NATO strategies during the Cold War and was known for his advocacy of strong naval capabilities.
After retiring from active service, Lord Hill-Norton became an outspoken advocate for greater transparency regarding unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). He expressed concerns about the potential implications of UAPs on national security and criticized governmental secrecy on the matter. His high-ranking military background lent credibility to his calls for official investigations and public disclosure, influencing public discourse and encouraging more serious consideration of UAPs within governmental and defense establishments.
